Discipline is that dirty word that we know we all need and could use more of – but we hate being subject to it, even from ourselves!

One issue with being disciplined is that it’s boring. It’s doing a lot of the same stuff, over and over again, with no fanfare. It’s not exciting, and often unrewarding. You’re practicing discipline based on your faith of future success.

Today’s show is Lather, rinse, repeat. Keep doing the work with the faith you’ll get rid of the dandruff.

  1. I had a dream when I was 15 to see my name on the cinema screen. Studied screen writing, studied films and then at the age of 19 I noticed an opportunity for video training, applied, wrote about all the things I’d been doing and it turns out they were short, all you had to do was show up.

I showed up, learned what I could, we were involved in producing a video for a local band, networked with the people at the training center. Then got my chance to be involved in an animated course, all I had to do was show up.

I showed up, this piece of animation got selected to be shown at the National Film Theater in London. I went and got to see my name on the BIG film screen. That was a great moment.

Showing up was all I really did, especially as my scenes ended up being cut, except for a 3 second piece of animation that I created. My work didn’t fit into the overall structure of the finished film. So I know what it’s like when an actor gets cut from a film. Sucked, but I achieved the dream.

Discipline all about having a consistent routine. Doing the work. If I knew then what I know now. However it’s never too late.

    • Showing up is a huge skill which many neglect. You see how it worked for you then and it still will today. Thanks, Colin, for the feedback.
