#256: A Leader Cannot Fear Disappointing People [WOYG Podcast]

Scroll this

The job of a leader… actually, let me start by talking about what a leader’s job is NOT.

A leader’s job is not to get all the glory.

A leader’s job is not to “be in charge” and give orders.

A leader’s job  is not to please people.

A leader’s job is not to pass all the hard work off on his #2-5 people while he supervises.

I will talk about all of these in due time. Today, it’s the pleasing people topic.

What a leader should do is ALWAYS guided by: what is best for the group? What gets US closer to OUR goal?

If that happens to disappoint you, so be it.

  1. Leaders make people feel safe, love that will have to check out the book Leaders Eat Last.

This ties in nicely with yesterdays episode, Just one at a time, you don’t need to impress everyone. Who are you for? Who are you against? Where do you stand? Where do you want to go? Easier to get people to buy in to you and what you’re doing when you stand for something.

May have to disappoint customers when your product or service isn’t for them. Remember reading something like that in the book Rework, Let your customers outgrow you.

    Another interesting episode Dre.

    • Thanks Colin. I will get the Rework book, hadn’t heard of it!
