I told you I never looked up to athletes. Jay-Z is another hip hop mogul who has inspired me a lot though, even while I was knee-deep in basketball.

As I’ve discussed on this(and others’) podcast before, ownership of my work is paramount. Right next to that is owning the means of production as much as possible, eliminating middlemen. Then it’s building a team, so I’m not the only one doing all the work forever.

Shawn Carter embodies all that and more. Listen to today’s show and learn what makes Him one of my mentors.

  1. He chose himself. Wonder how many people who can’t get a record contract take matters into their own hands, even now where everything is set up for you to do that.

Take that bet and bet on yourself. If you don’t succeed you have a story to tell. Could be one hell of a story and give you the cashflow to go again.

    An interesting episode Dre.
