A colleague of mine told me how, starting her first business, she and her partner were set to make an offer of $250,000 to a prospect. Thing is, the whole proposal was supposed to be a project, not a real business offering. With no real “skin in the game,” so to speak, they decided to change to offer to $1,000,000 — a number so big, the client would just laugh it off.

The client accepted. My colleague and her partner were officially in business.
