#674: Becoming The Opponent Who No One Wants To Play Against [WOYG Podcast]
There’s an NBA player named Pat Beverly that inspired this episode.
Pat is not a household name player and probably never will be: He came into the league with very little fanfare. He doesn’t score a lot of points; his value is in defense and toughness. Pat is about 6 feet tall and thin. If you saw him in the street, you may not even think “basketball player.” Pat is currently a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, who are a mediocre team at best. If you don’t follow the NBA closely, you don’t know Pat. And that’s ok.
If you’re a player, you already know why Pat inspires today’s topic: He’s the kind of player you’d would hate to play against.
Pat scrapes and claws, sometimes literally, and never gives an inch. The guy plays as if fighting and scraping is the only thing keeping him employed in the NBA. And it is. Pat is the guy who, if you beat him in a fight, will still leave you with a bloody nose. He’s the player who, even if you won the game, you’ll still feel the effects of his physicality when it’s time for the next game two days later.
Pat is the player you never want to see playing for the other team. And today I’ll explain how you can become that same type in what you do.
