A question I answered on Quora: How do I become a good basketball player without speed, height or athletism?

A:

The same way any other player, even one who has all the above traits, would get better.

  1. Work On Your Game. Skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing, and lateral movement can be practiced and developed with disciplined effort.
  2. Get/remain in shape. Be conditioned to play in a full, full court game without needing to sit for rest. Have any of those physical tools doesn’t get you in shape any more than anyone else.
  3. Learn the game. Positioning. Running plays. Team concepts on offense and defense. Basic rules of what is allowed and not allowed.
  4. Maximize your physical tools. While you can’t do anything about your height (at least as of the time of this writing), you can become faster and more athletic via training your athleticism functionally (read: sport-specifically). My Ultimate Athlete program is made specifically for basketball players.
