Stop Whining, You Bitches: Your Complaints Wont Change Anything

Stop Whining, You Bitches dre baldwinI recently had the fortune of listening to a person making a complaint about something he didn’t have. What bothered me about it — other than the fact that I loathe listening to people bitch about shit that they don’t control — was that this person was complaining about something that he had no claim to. Nothing was owed to him, he hadn’t paid for it in money or time or effort and he wasn’t being cheated in any way. He was just bitching.

I’ve seen this movie before: A person sees other people receive some favor/benefit/recognition and believe they are entitled to it. Then they complain when they don’t get it — “They got it! Where’s mine?”

Listen: We all already know — though sometimes people must be reminded — that life isn’t fair. Some people get shit that they don’t deserve. Titles are bestowed upon entities who did not earn them. Power is abused by people holding such positions. It has happened long before you, it happens now and it will keep happening after you. But that we already know, right? So this is not my point.

If you’re upset that something wasn’t handed to you as it was to all of them, your best move is to get out of the position of needing or wanting things handed to you. When you have the power in your own hands, magically you become the person who gets bitched about rather than the one doing the whining. Instead of wondering why you didn’t get the free handout you’re the one handing shit out. If you happen to get something tossed your way, cool — a surprise treat. Nothing more.

That’s how I view power. And I’ve come to understand that not everyone wants to be in that type of position. Too much responsibility. Too much attention. Too much heat.

Think of the 5 most powerful people you know (of). Their power could be their job title or money or how they conduct themselves, whatever. Just the first 5 names that come to mind when you think “Power”.

They don’t complain. They don’t bitch or whine. They don’t hope things go their way. Nothing they put stake in is based on another person’s decisions, whims or emotions — those are uncontrollable, unpredictable bonuses, small things off to the side. They call their own shots and the people who deal with or watch them or work with them know this, without it ever being said.

When you find yourself getting into “complain mode” — about anything — ask yourself where, in that circumstance, you are ceding power to someone else. Then ask what you can do to take it for yourself. Handouts and free stuff are given. Power and control is taken.

Peasants complain about kings. Soldiers complain about generals. Betas complain about the alpha.

If you didn’t pay for it, it ain’t yours. So shut the fuck up and boss up.
